  • 48 Hour Cancellation Policy

Like most reputable driving schools, we have a strict 48 hour cancellation policy that can be found via our website. https://www.4frontdrivingschool.co.uk/terms-and-conditions Lessons cancelled at short notice or missed for what ever reason (48hrs before lesson start time) will require payment in full. It is your responsibility to check times and dates of lessons. You will find that the driving test centre follows the same rule. We can’t afford to be messed about for whatever reason. At the end of the day if you cancel why should we loose out? We could fill that slot with a paying student if you give us enough warning. Unfortunately some circumstances are unpredictable, but we have to be firm and present our policy like any other business. Please read our terms and conditions and ask any questions you may have. Please note: If we were to cancel last minute, you won’t of course be charged as it is our fault and we will accept the loss of earnings, so it works both ways. Thank you for your co-operation.

  • How Many Hours Of Driving Tuition Will I Need?

How many hours of driving tuition will I need? It depends on a number of factors that only you can answer? Have you ever driven before? How good is your knowledge of the road? Have you read up on and completed your theory and hazard perception test? Do you have access to a car for extra practise? How confident do you feel about learning to drive? How committed are you in putting in the hours? According to the figgers from the DVSA, you’ll need around 44 hours of professional lessons to pass your driving test if you are learning from scratch. This is just an average figure – it’s important to remember that everyone’s different. Top tip: Take an Assessment Lesson and find out how many hours you might need to take, especially if you have had previous experience. This will give you a rough base line and some targets to work on. It will also focus on your possible weak points that you need to work on. Did you know that if you have ridden a motorcycle before learning to drive then you tend to be more road savvy but you need to overcome other problems like using your feet to react rather than your hands. Our tailor made assessment will help work out how many hours you’re going to need to get to test standard. What affects the number of lessons that you may need? The number of driving lessons that you will need varies from person to person. How frequently you have lessons can be a positive. You have less gaps between lessons and retain more of the things you have learnt. Learners who get extra private practice tend to pass quicker and more likely to pass first time. These sessions don’t have to be full on and could just be driving to the supermarket and practising parking. There are companys out there who offer Learner driver insurance that won’t affect your parents or partners insurance if you make a claim. It can be taken out as a temporary insurance for a week for example. Check out some of our suggested insurers via our website. http://www.4frontdrivingschool.co.uk

  • Senario – Glare Of The Sun After Rain

Have you ever considered different senarios that you may face when you are out on the road. Here is a common one to consider. Senario – So we’ve just had a downpour of rain and the sun has started to come out which is rather low in the sky. What do you need to consider or be aware of? The glare off the sun on the road As the the sun reflects the water on the road it causes a glare that affects the drivers visibility and makes the road markings more difficult to see. How could you deal with this situation to make the driving condition easier to contend with? At 4front Driving School we encourage our students to, 1) Use your sunglasses, (and bring them with you to each lesson so that you are prepared) 2) Use the sun visor to reduce the glare, 3) Slow down if your visibility is reduced to give yourself more time to make decisions and direct the car more safely and efficiently. 4) Remember to still check your mirrors as you will still be able to see how accurately you are positioned in the road. • What Will Happen On The Day Of My Driving Test?

On the day of your driving test you will be picked up roughly an hour before your test. Treat it like a warm up where you have the opportunity to get rid your nerves and ask any questions that might be bothering you. You will drive to the test centre 10 minuted before the test and reverse bay park your vehicle into an designated parking bay. Make sure that the vehicle is set up exactly to your requirements – seat position, steering wheel, mirrors etc. When you enter the building its advised to use the toilet so that you feel comfortable during your test. You will wait in the waiting area with your instructor until the examiner calls your name. Have your driving license ready and the key for the car. When you are called out you will be required to present your license and confirm your address. Then you will be asked to sign the declaration on the test paper. Your examiner will ask if you wish to have your instructor to sit in the back with you during the test, sometimes this helps calm nerves, other times it may be a distraction – choose wisely, your instructor can’t do anything or say anything during the test. You will walk to the car and be required to read out a number plate. Your examiner will also ask you a tell me question.  When you enter the car and get comfy the examiner will check the car and take down some notes. The test will last between half an hour and 40 minutes. When you return to the test centre it is not required to park perfectly, remember your test is not over until you turn off the engine. The examiner will then give you your feedback and result which you can invite your instructor to attend.  You will then be given a lift home hopefully with the result you want and a smile on your face. • Not Signaling

It causes confusion and delay and in some cases can jeopardise a learners test. To overcome this hurdal you need to observe other drivers behaviour and avoid risk and confrontation. How are the other cars positioned, what speed are they traveling, what is the likelyhood of them carying on or turning. Judgement is important and how you anticipate can determin the balance between hesitation and risk. • The Cockpit Drill

The cockpit drill is a sequence of checks which you should carry out whenever you get into your vehicle, especially if someone else has previously driven the vehicle as you need to set it up for your own comfort, vision and safety. There are a number of tasks to perform to achieve the cockpit drill. Check Your Doors Are All Closed Check that all the doors of the car are closed by: Checking both your wing mirrors to see if the doors are flush with the frame of the car. Pull your door handle to see that it is firm and does not rattle. Listen for the sound of air getting into the car, noises from outside the car would appear louder. Look at the relevent dashboard symbols in case a ‘door open’ warning light is illuminated lit up. Check the handbrakeCheck that the handbrake is tight or parking brake is on. Check that the gears in neutral position. These are the first safety checks that you should perform. The Drivers Seat Move the drivers seat – your seat forward or backwards so that you can comfortably press the clutch pedal all the way down to the floor. Then adjust the height of the seat so that you can see clearly above the steering wheel. When the clutch is fully pressed down to the floot, your left leg should be reasonably straight but not overly stretched. Steering Wheel Adjustment You should adjust the height and depth of the steering column so that your arms are comfortably positioned when holding the steering wheel without being too stretched or bent as you need full control of the wheel. Adjust the headrest so that it’s level with the top of your head and the middle of it is in line with your eyes and ears. The head rest is designed to support your head and neck in case of an impact. Your Seatbelt Put on your seatbelt making sure it isn’t twisted or loose.Adjust the height of it if necessary so that it runs across the top of your shoulder, not against your arm or neck. As a driver you are responsible for ensuring that anyone under the age of 14 wears a seat belt or uses an appropriate child restraint as required by law.You should ensure that other passengers obide by the law too. You don’t want to take any risks. Mirrors It is important to adjust the mirrors correctly once you have set up your seat position. Keep your head in line with the head rest and adjust the rear view mirror so that you have a clear image of the rear windscreen. Set the wing mirrors so that the drivers door handle is in the bottom left hand corner of the drivers side mirror and then on the passenger wing mirror you should see the passenger door handle in the bottom right hand corner. You should also see a bit of the side of the car, the curb, objects behind, basically a good peripheral to the side of the car. Basicaly you should be able to see the horizon of the pavement and road about a third of the way up the mirrors.Making the correct adjustment whenever you enter the car and have not been the one previously driving it will prove invaluable, especially when you’re driving in lanes of traffic or dealing with special awareness. Your wing mirrors are also convex to give you the broadest view possible. This willvdistort the reflection a little bit, so that traffic looks further away. It does not replace the fact that you need to check your blind spots eg looking over your shoulders too before pulling away. The interior mirror however is flat and shows a truer reflection. You are set to go!
