From Putting It Off for Years to Passing First Time! Laura’s Automatic Driving Success in Loughborough

Dreaming of driving but keep putting it off? Laura’s story shows that it’s never too late to take that first step towards independence.

At 4front Driving School, we believe learning to drive is about so much more than passing a test. It’s about building confidence, overcoming challenges and gaining the freedom to live life on your own terms.

And today, we’re celebrating a fantastic example of exactly that!

🎉 Congratulations, Laura – A First-Time Pass!

On 26th October 2026, Laura from Loughborough achieved something she had been putting off for years. With her instructor, Simon Harrison, Laura passed her automatic driving test first time at Melton Mowbray Test Centre!

Laura was absolutely over the moon, and understandably so.

For her, this wasn’t simply about passing a driving test. It was about finally gaining the independence she had been looking forward to for so long.

Being able to pop to the shops, run errands and get from A to B without having to rely on somebody else to drive her is a huge milestone.

Laura, it has been a genuine privilege to support you on your journey. You should be incredibly proud of what you have achieved. Enjoy every moment of your newfound freedom!

🚗 Have You Been Putting Off Learning to Drive?

Perhaps you can relate to Laura.

Maybe learning to drive has been on your to-do list for years. You might have convinced yourself that you will get around to it eventually, but something keeps holding you back.

It could be anxiety, a lack of confidence, previous experiences with driving lessons, or simply worrying about whether you will be able to cope with everything involved.

You might even wonder whether you have left it too late.

You haven't missed your opportunity to work towards independence.

Every learner has their own starting point, their own challenges and their own reasons for wanting to drive. At 4front Driving School, we recognise that there is no single approach that works for everyone.

Our aim is to help you develop at a pace that suits your needs, build your confidence and work towards becoming a safe, independent driver.

You don't need to arrive feeling confident. Building that confidence is part of the journey.

🧠 An Emotional Rollercoaster – But Laura Kept Going!

Laura's journey wasn't without its ups and downs. Like many learners, she experienced some challenging moments along the way.

But she kept going, took things in her stride and worked towards her goal.

And, when it really mattered, she remembered one of our favourite reminders: "Zip it!" 🤐😂

Sometimes, the most helpful thing you can do is give yourself a moment to think, trust your preparation and concentrate on the task in front of you.

Learning to drive isn't about getting everything right immediately. It's about recognising mistakes, learning from experiences and developing the skills to make safer decisions independently.

At 4front, we want our learners to understand their driving, not simply follow instructions. Our supportive, client-centred approach helps learners gradually take greater responsibility for their decisions and build the confidence they need for life beyond the driving test.

📚 Managing Driving Test Anxiety: What Helped Laura?

One particularly lovely part of Laura's success was hearing that my book, Behind the Mind of a Driving Examiner, helped take the edge off her pre-test anxiety.

Understanding what a driving examiner is looking for can help make the test feel less mysterious. Knowing that the examiner is assessing your ability to drive safely and independently may help you approach the experience with a clearer mindset.

Of course, reading a book won't remove every worry or guarantee a pass. But having a better understanding of the test, combined with appropriate preparation and supportive instruction, can help you feel more prepared.

If driving test nerves are something you struggle with, you may find this guide useful.

Behind the Mind of a Driving Examiner explores why good drivers sometimes fail and what examiners are looking for during a practical driving test.

💚 Laura’s Words Say It All!

Laura’s review:

“So grateful to Simon for his patience and diligence in teaching me to learn to drive. I didn't always think I could do it, but his feedback and perseverance when I made mistakes mean I can now do a food shop on my own and possibly get my girls out and about during the holidays! Give this man a medal!!” 🏅❤️

Simon’s reply:
