- Driving instructors wanted-Train to become a Driving Instructor
With 4front Driving School https://youtu.be/NTGd3OU-ws4 Looking for a career change?Been made redundant?Looking for work?We can help… Join our franchise Already and ADI – No ties franchise scheme What we can offer you? We can offer you training to become an approved Driving Instructor. Why is this a good choice of a career? Being an approved driving instructor (ADI) can be a very rewarding career: you’ll help people to learn an important skill for life and help teach others to be safe and confident drivers. The job will involve working with all sorts of people so you’ll need good people skills as well as: patience and understanding as an instructor, a thorough knowledge of the theory and practical driving test, an ability to teach, awareness of changes in the regulations for driving tests, as well as driving instruction and the highway code, business sense, And the great thing is you can be your own boss. At 4front Driving School we can offer you all your training needs, all we ask is that you are committed and withhold our company’s fantastic reputation for delivering a fantastic and caring service towards our students. A bit about me – I am Simon, an ADI who trained a number of years ago to become a driving instructor as I believed I had the qualities, patience and credentials needed to become a successful driving instructor. I was a teacher for 12 years, originally in secondary education, I later moved into primary but the workload and stress was all to much. That might sound familiar. I wanted to be my own boss, no more targets, no-one looking over me, calling me into their office – `Sound Familiar?` I worked for a local driving school to begin with, learnt the ropes and how to be successful in this field of work. After a year or so I felt confident I could grow my own business and not rely on others help anymore. So at 4front Driving School we can offer you a package to suit your needs – we have competitive rates and no ties. If you fancy meeting up to discuss your situation, options or way we can help you then please don’t hesitate to contact me for a chat. Call me on 07905657229 Things you will need to consider You’ll need to check that you’re eligible to apply to become a driving instructor. Take a quick test on GOV.UK to find out whether you can apply. This test will also tell you what to do next to become an ADI. How to apply First you’ll need to apply to the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) to become an ADI. To do this you’ll need to give details about your current driving licence including any driving offences. You’ll also need a criminal records disclosure number. You can apply to become an ADI on GOV.UK. Criminal record check Before you can apply to become an ADI, you’ll need to have a criminal record check. Apply for your check at GOV.UK Next steps When you’ve been accepted to start the qualifying process, you can start your training towards the three ADI tests. Part 1: theory test Part 2: practical driving test Part 3: instructional ability test. You’ll have to pass the tests in this order and you must pass them within a two-year period before you can join the ADI register. Once you have completed Part 1 we advise you undergo some driver training to get you prepared for part 2. Most drivers develop habits over the years that need to be ironed out. You only get 3 attempts at this part otherwise you have to wait 2 years before you can start again from scratch. Each attempt is costly and time consuming to you. Once you have successfully completed part 2 then we can undergo the relevant training for part 3. When we think you are ready you can apply for a pink PDI badge which will allow you to teach whilst getting paid with real students that we can provide for you. Some of this will involve us observing your teaching so that you can develop the right skills to pass part 3. You will be required to take 40 hours of Part 3 training before you will be entitled to apply for a trainee licence. We can offer more training if you need it or request it. Want to know more? - Eco Driving Techniques with 4front Driving School.
We pride our techniques that we have learnt and want to share that will help you save fuel and reduce the impact that you and your vehicle are having on the environment. To Drive More Smoothly, To drive more smoothly you should firstly assess the road as far ahead of ahead as possible to avoid unnecessary late braking. Over acceleration is the other problem which increases the amount of fuel you use so a smooth and gentle acceleration uses less power and thus requires less fuel to be consumed. Increasing Greater Distance Try to maintain a greater distance between you and the vehicle in front so that you can adapt your speed when necessary by coming off of the accelerator and letting the car slow down naturaly without using the brakes. Lowering Gears Down Hill Lowering the gears to help control the speed down a hill uses engine braking braking. Engine braking shuts off fuel consumption, as opposed to just braking or putting the car in neutral. You’ll also use less fuel when pulling away in a lower gear than pulling away at low speeds in high gear. All this adds up to a safer, more economical drive on brakes that will in turn last longer. Shift Up Early To A Higher Gear Driving at lower revs reduces fuel consumption so change up a gear at around 2,000 Revs Per Minute. Take Advantage Of ‘Stop Start’ Many newer cars automatically turn off when stationary in neutral due to the Stop Start system built in to it. If yours doesn’t have Stop Start then turn off your engine when you’ve stopped for a minute or so to save fuel. Avoid your car idling for long periods of time as this wastes fuel and is unnecessary damage to the environment. Slow Down When Cruising Your fuel costs will increase the faster you cruise along. A 6 speed gear box helps keep the Revs lower when cruising at the national speed limit but if you only have 5 then it is even more important to watch your speed and revs. Windows Or Air Conditioning It is more fuel efficient to open the window over using air-conditioning when driving. Air conditioning can increase your fuel consumption by as much as 5%.acording to the Energy Saving Trust. Do Tyre pressures Matter When It comes To Fuel Consumption? Under-inflated tyres will increase your fuel consumption and can also be dangerous so checking your tyres once a month and before long journeys is very important. Roof Racks And Boxes Cause Drag Having Roof Racks and Roof Boxes onto of your car these attached to your car will increase drag and as a result will increase your fuel costs. So if you are not using it we advise you remove it rather than have it permanently fixed to your vehicle. Lightening The Load Remove any excess items from your car before travelling to reduce the overall weight. Even by having the car filled at half a tank will reduce enough weight to see difference. So you may think next time your at the pump to maybe only fill it half way. - Gear Selection
A tutorial in gear selection Changing gear allows a car to be driven economically, reducing fuel consumption and maximising performance. The more you become consistent with your gear selection, matching it with the revs and good clutch control then the more fuel efficient you will become. Most modern cars have 6 gears and reverse. To change gear: Once you have achieved 2000 revs per minute – Release the accelerator pedal and then press the clutch pedal down fully. Remove your left hand from the steering wheel, position the hand according to the gear needed and avoid cupping it around the gear knob and move the lever gently but precisely from one position to another. Return your left hand to the steering wheel. Release the clutch pedal slowly snd smoothly Then once released reapply power by pressing down on the accelerator pedal to continue to increase your speed. Whilst changing gear you must always keep your eyes on the road and not look down at the gear stick. You need to get a feel for where the gears are and how to position your hand correctly to make the best selection. At 4front Driving School we recommend our students practise this in their own time in a stationary car each day until they become consistent with where each gear is located. The sound of the engine can tell you when you need to change gear as well as the rev counter, or other symbols on the cars smart screen. As you accelerate the engine will become whiny and take on a higher pitch. This is because the engine is reaching its limits for the gear you are in. When you hear this you should change up. Here is a short video to help you position your hands correctly when selecting gears and changing between gears so that you always achieve a smooth gear change. 1st Gear From neutral position the palm of your left hand on the side of the gear stick knob. Push away from you to your left until the gear stick reaches the far left side. Then using the palm of your hand push the gear stick up into the left corner until it locks into position. (across to the left and up) 1st to 2nd Gear Keeping the palm of your left hand sideways push to the left keeping the gear stick against the left side of the gear box. Then bring the gear stick down towards the left hand bottom corner using your fingers to guide it into position until it locks into place. 2nd to 3rd Gear Using the palm of your hand push the gear stick in two stages upwards. First it will pop into neutral, keep pushing and it will then pop into third. If you don’t do this gently in two stages then you risk accidentally going back into first which can be dangerous and cause engine braking. 3rd to 4th Gear This involves a flicking technique, flicking the gear stick straight down in two stages, flick flick using your fingers – see the gif image below. 4th to 5th gear From 4th gear push up one stage with the palm of your hand into the neutral position. Push towards you to your right until the gear stick reaches the far right side. Then using the palm of your hand push the gear stick up into the right corner until it locks into position. (up to the right and up) 5th to 6th Gear Keeping the palm of your left hand sideways push to the right keeping the gear stick against the right side of the gear box. Then bring the gear stick down towards the right hand bottom corner using your fingers to guide it into position until it locks into place. - Driving Test Routes Loughborough
The Driving Test routes are no longer published by the DVSA any more but here are some of the routes that you may expect to take in your test in Loughborough.
- Defensive Driving Techniques
Defensive driving is all about being observant, anticipating problems and planning ahead. Once you have learnt the basics of driving and are getting towards test standard then it is time to become more self aware, take control, become independent and most of all drive safely. This is where defensive driving has its place when learning to drive. I have put together a number of useful links to fantastic blog posts and videos to support you in this transition stage. Consider your awareness and planning - So, what can I see? What does that mean for me? And what will I do about it to stay safe? For example, you might notice that the dustbins are out – this means you can anticipate that there might be a lorry around the next corner so you should slow down on the bend just in case. You can’t control what others do, but you can make predictions, and anticipate their decisions by their behaviour and driving techniques. So it is key to pay attention to the way vehicles around you behave and spotting potential risks and hazards before they’re able to occur.
